Your first Lipstick and Our First Luxury Giveaway

Sneaking into mommy's vanity box and getting that amazing scented mascara of matte white and gold packaging out to just smell it (Lancome's classic scent it was) , she knew where to put it to use but was too frightened if she'll find out she's been there. She did somehow as some voodoo magic, knowing exactly who was sneaking into it (lol duh, I've inherited that talent as well). Sometimes she applied a rosy glossy unknown lipstick to not let her feel left out.  A couple of years later, lipsticks mattered to her it was clearly seen through her eyes lighting up when she dared not to touch shades on the lipstick counters. Her mom got her two  lipsticks one in a soft chocolate shade and the other in maroon as a gift one day from the forgotten land.  Not one, but two very own lipsticks - pure bliss! Gliding on the thin surface, the application ended before it started. She wore the matching s ...

MAC Lightness of Being

The collection pretty much speaks about knitting with the texture of their powder products, can't reason why though. It isn't as exciting as the past or dramatic with deeper colors. Maybe an attempt to lighten the air a bit? I have managed to google a few swatches and picked some of the things that interest me in this which I might pick up when I am back in India. It was launched last year in the US but this week in India. Wish List 1. Mineralize Skin Finish in Lightscapade and Perfect Topping Rs.2400: Reminds me of the Guerlain Poudre de Soie (middle east limited edition)highlighter which is way out of budget for me at a whopping 400SAR. Perfect Topping seems a little champagne than Lightscapade which is bright. Until I swatch it myself I can't be too sure which one I actually need. 2. Mineralize Rich Lipsticks in Luxe Natural and Style Surge Rs. 2100: The other shades are too light ...

Getting the Naked Palette

The Naked palettes are the rave of the beauty world since the launch of two of their predecessors. With the limited availability, I always felt left out. Everyone got it through friends and family living abroad and with horror stories of palettes arriving broken with online orders, gasp...fake rip off palettes- not worth it.  In the professional world of makeup artistry, the girls who wait for the next naked palette and grab it without any research would easily be considered sheep. We research swatches, get the best value for money and shades that are most useful. And a palette filled with ten shimmer shades isn't going be a good use. My next visit to Sephora and oh my, they are there! All for me to swatch and see for myself. I stood there inspecting all colors from Naked 1, 2 and 3 followed by basics and the newer Vice 3 which was sold out. That was amazing by the way I would have de ...

Benefit BadGAL waterproof Liners Review & Swatches

Benefit has been the rave since about five years now and these liners are some of the unsung heroes of the brand. I grabbed the shades Extra Black (pure black) and Espresso (dark warm brown) because well who can't have enough of classic shades in their stash? Unlike the newer Benefit products, these do not come with fun filled instructions. The rubber or sponge tips for smudging were quite famous back in the days which made me feel more excited about these. These come in a sharpenable classic pencil form with an opaque cap for the pencil tips and transparent for the smudge tips. The smudge tips feel a little rubbery but serve their purpose perfectly. The tip glides like a dream but not as much as gel imitating pencil liners. However, they set fairly quick after a thick feeling on the lids after application. I would advise to keep them tightly capped to avoid drying out. Are they wa ...

The Nude Kohl that works

Shopping day with the students was fun which led to me ended up purchasing one product while they were crowding up on the check out counters. We were going on and on about the latest looks the dos and the don'ts which led to the topic of eye brighteners on the waterline. We obviously hated white. It looks overly unnatural and ghostly. I remembered the one from Revlon which is a decent light nude brightener I had swatched earlier but unfortunately the other dual combos were on the blueish whiter side. I guess everyone got this gem that day. The emerald on the other side is a beauty on its own. Nothing fancy but a pretty cool drugstore purchase. Revlon claims it to be an intense eyeliner + brightener combination crayon pencil. In other desi words, a 'kajal' so hence the name Photoready Kajal. The pencil comes in a regular drugstore packaging on paper and plastic closure in India. ...

News About the Ban of Female Makeup Artists in Bollywood

While women think they've got complete freedom in the country and gender equality, they were still lacking in the most celebrated industry in the country. Unfortunately, Bollywood had a decades old ban on female makeup artists to enter the industry through trade unions. I thought that women chose not to work in due to the work schedules and men were more preferred but that was rigid as it could be as a ban. Reminds me of the driving ban on women in Saudi Arabia where there are no laws pertaining it but the local industry has their own set of rules. Well, someone needed to change that right? That someone was Charu Khurana who was banned from set of the shooting of the movie Raavan in 2010. (image) After dragging it through the court, well duh, supposed to happen, the Supreme Court has lifted the ban but the unions were more concerned how it would hurt the livelihood of men. O ...
